We wanted to update you on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and fertility treatment.
We know that you have placed your faith in us to help solve a true medical issue: infertility. We are committed to continuing to provide you the quality care you expect from us, and our team is working with Women & Infants Hospital and Care New England to ensure that all of our patients and staff stay healthy.
To protect both patients and staff, we are modifying some of our protocols. It is a constantly evolving process, so please contact us as questions arise as you initiate treatment. We are limiting the number of patients in the office at any time and utilizing telehealth. At this time, partners are currently not allowed to be present during transfers. We would like to direct you to websites that can assist you as this process unfolds, such as our professional organization the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Frozen Embryo Transfer
In the following video Women & Infants’ Fertility Center nurse Diane Sharkey, BSN, RN, reviews the typical process for a frozen embryo transfer (FET) after an IVF cycle. FETs often require several stages of testing to gauge embryo health and the best time to transfer the embryo(s) into the uterus. Women take medication to prepare for an FET, including estrogen and progesterone.
Our fertility specialists often recommend transferring as few embryos as possible into a woman’s uterus, ideally just one in elective single embryo transfer (eSET). This lowers the risk of a multiple pregnancy of twins or more, which can cause health complications for the mother and child. Any remaining embryos can be cryopreserved for future FETs, saving patients money and time.
